The first Northeast Asia Shipping Legal Summit, co-hosted by China Shipowners' Association, Dalian Maritime University, and Dalian International Arbitration Institute, was held in Dalian recently. The theme of the summit is Rule of Law Modernization of Carriage of Goods by Sea and Amendment of the Maritime Code. A total of 140 representatives from government departments, universities, courts, arbitration institutions, law firms, and various types of enterprises in the shipping industry attended the conference.
Judge Yan Jingru from Dalian Maritime Court participated in the roundtable discussion session and presented opinions and suggestions on three specific issues combining judicial theory and practice. The issues are the rule innovation of electronic transport documents, the compulsory application of Chapter 4 of the Maritime Code to carriage of goods starting from or ending in Chinese ports, and the unification of legal application for domestic and foreign-related contracts of carriage of goods by sea. She also exchanged ideas with representatives and audiences from various sectors including shipping, ports, and insurance.
Dalian Maritime Court will thoroughly implement Xi Jinping thought on the rule of law and give full play to its judicial roles. The Court will actively performing its duties, focus on the progress of the amendment of the Maritime Code and make feasible proposals. Dalian Maritime Court will thus contribute to the high-quality development of Chinese maritime justice, serve and ensure our national maritime strength.
